The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a great start in their 2022 season after a dominating win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. No one, besides Chiefs fans and media, expected Kansas City to have that type of performance.
The offense was great, and Mahomes looked like he has been working on his game non-stop.
Here are three offensive players who could go off against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football.
Jody Fortson, Tight End
We saw last week that Fortson was able to get into the end zone with a touchdown. For some reason, he is very, very good at that. The Chiefs put him in 13 personnel at the goal line, which means one running back, and three tight ends.
From there, Fortson was just able to make an insane catch from Mahomes off of his back foot to score the touchdown. I'm saying all this to say, they lobe Fortson when on the goal line. Look for him Thursday to create opportunities with his size and speed in that area.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Wide Receiver
I think everyone will be worried about Travis Kelce and JuJu Smith-Schuster on the Chiefs offense, that they will completely forget about the deep threat that is MVS.
In Week 1 against the Cardinals, Smith-Schuster and Kelce had the majority of the targets, with both getting a combined 17 targets. MVS got just four targets. Mahomes said in the offseason that every game could be different with a different receiver going off for each one. If I had to guess, I'd say MVS would be the guy up next.
Skyy Moore, Wide Receiver
I loved what I saw from the rookie in his first-ever game. He had one play that should have been a short gain, but he turned it into a 30-yard play instead just solely because of his playmaking ability.
Moore may get more targets than the one he got against the Cardinals, and if he does he can turn something into nothing. There isn't a whole lot of or any for that matter, tape to go off of for the Chargers when it comes to Moore. The Chiefs may very well exploit that.
Look for Moore to be used in more ways than one.
