The Kansas City Chiefs lost a vital piece of their offense in the win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. And star quarterback Patrick Mahomes actually played a part in it.

After throwing an interception, Mahomes tried to make a tackle to prevent the Chargers from getting an additional yards. And Rashee Rice was attempting the same thing. However, instead of running into the Los Angeles player, Mahomes hit the wide receiver.

"No, I mean, when I saw on the replay, I felt like sh** that I hit Rashee (Rice)," Mahomes said on Thursday. "I mean, I think that's, that's pretty much all.

"I mean, I wasn't really worried about myself. I was worried about hopefully his injury, and hopefully that it wasn't as bad as it looked, because I was the one that hit him."

In last week's game, Rice was carted off the field and it was suspected that he tore his ACL. However, initial testing revealed no conclusive evidence of a season-ending ACL tear. Because of that, it appeared that more testing was needed along with second opinions to determine the best course of action for Rice.

So the team has yet to announce an official diagnosis. However, the Chiefs decided to place the receiver on Injured Reserve on Thursday afternoon in the meantime, meaning he will miss a minimum of four games.

Mahomes also commented on Rice's injury after the game.

"Obviously the corner made a good play. I was trying to fire it to [TE Travis Kelce] Trav on his body," Mahomes said on Sunday. "I overthrew him a little bit, turned the ball over and then I thought [WR] Rashee [Rice] really made a good play.

"I was trying to tackle the guy and obviously rolled up on him. If I just don't turn the ball over, that never happens. So, you’ve just got to try to get better at that."
