Chiefs quarterback Chris Oladokun has a message that’s as powerful as it gets after a loss to the Broncos on Christmas Day
The Chiefs are going to miss Travis Kelce if it was his last home game.
Anyone who has ever covered the Kansas City Chiefs or been a fan of the team for some time likely got a bit emotional on Thursday night when the Chiefs lost to the Denver Broncos at home on Christmas. It’s not because the Chiefs missed the playoffs or because Patrick Mahomes didn’t even play the rest of the season. It’s because Travis Kelce might have played his final home game at Arrowhead Stadium.
When Kelce ran out of the tunnel before the game started, he did his usual bow-and-arrow celebration, but before pulling that hypothetical string back to his chest, he took a brief moment to take it all in. His teammates took it all in as well.
“He’s the greatest tight end of all time, I’d be a fool not to lean on him a little bit,” quarterback Chris Oladokun told reporters after the loss. “Even the quarter where he didn’t get a reception, he’s still in my ear telling me we’re going to get this thing going. Hopefully, it’s not Trav’s last year… He’ll make that decision in the offseason… Obviously, Chiefs Kingdom would love to have him back… The game needs him.”
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce could move up to eighth all-time in receptions vs. the Raiders
Kelce’s last game of his career could be against the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s on the road, and still without his quarterback in Mahomes throwing him the ball. However, given what we saw on Thursday, Oladokun could find him twice, enough to move up to eighth all-time in receptions.
Kelce could move up to fifth all-time in receptions if he played one more season, which is still on the table. The greatest tight end of all time showed on Thursday that he still has some juice left in the tank.
The Chiefs would need to know what’s going to happen soon in the offseason, so they can quickly figure out how they’re going to try to replace him. Kelce is one of the best offensive players ever to play this game, and it’s going to be a sad day when he retires.
