Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice continues to build his case as the best rookie pass-catcher in franchise history.

Just a week ago, Rice surpassed franchise greats like Fred Arbanas, Stephone Paige, and Tyreek Hill to record the most-ever touchdown receptions by a rookie in franchise history. Now, he's claiming a new record previously held by another franchise great at the wide receiver position.

He's been breaking the mold for rookie wide receivers in an Andy Reid offense this season, and the latest record broken is just as impressive as the last.

Move on over Dwayne Bowe

With three receptions against the Raiders on Monday, Rice now has 71 receptions during his rookie campaign. He surpasses WR Dwayne Bowe (70) for the most catches by a rookie in franchise history.

Bowe was a first-round pick in the 2007 NFL draft out of LSU. His franchise-record stood for 16 seasons before Rice was able to break it. All it took was a struggling WR corps to thrust a rookie into action early in his career to get the job done. It also underscores just how little the Chiefs have invested in their pass-catchers over the past decade-plus.

Rice is pacing to break another of Bowe's records

Entering the Week 16 game, Rice had 68 receptions for 754 yards and seven touchdowns. He needed just 242 yards over the next three games to eclipse the franchise record for receiving yards by a rookie, which Bowe also set back in 2007 (995).

With 3 receptions for 35 yards in the first half of this Week 16 game, Rice should have a shot. There's a very good chance that he could hold the vast majority of records by a rookie pass catcher when the 2023 NFL season is all said and done.

The one he might have trouble reaching is the target record (116), which is also held by Bowe. Rice is averaging six targets per game this season, which would see him 10 shy of tying the record.
