The Kansas City Chiefs have released their first “unofficial” depth chart ahead of the Week 1 2025 NFL season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil.

We’ll caution all season long to take these with a grain of salt. The team releases the depth chart, but it’s considered “unofficial” because the coaching staff does not assemble it, and it does not always reflect what the coaches have in mind. Specific personnel groupings and packages are difficult to predict based solely on the depth chart. They don’t include positions like slot wide receiver or nickel corner.

Generally speaking, these depth charts do give you a good idea of where a player stands in the pecking order heading into a given week. With that in mind, here’s a look at the first depth chart and some notes below:

Chiefs’ Unofficial Depth Chart – August 29, 2025

The most fascinating tidbit in the offensive depth chart is the developments around the left tackle and the right guard positions. If we’re to believe this depth chart, Wanya Morris, not Jaylon Moore, would fill in at the left tackle position if Josh Simmons were unable to play. Additionally, Jaylon Moore and Wanya Morris are listed as backups at the right guard position. Moore did play some left guard during training camp, but right guard would be a new development. Morris playing guard in any capacity would also be a notable development.

The most notable aspect here is that the Chiefs already have Derrick Nnadi as a starter opposite Chris Jones. They just acquired Nnadi from the New York Jets in a trade after the former 2018 NFL Draft pick left Kansas City during the 2025 NFL free agency period. This feels notable given that he says he’s still getting back up to speed in his return to the team.

Nothing out of the ordinary here. The Chiefs typically do not list backup kickers or punters, but Butker and Araiza will respectively hold those positions. As for kick and punt return, look for some opportunities for Tyquan Thornton to occur on occasion. Dave Toub also has Xavier Worthy in his back pocket for a “got-to-have-it” type of play, as he did with Tyreek Hill in the past.
