One of the Kansas City Chiefs rookies has the same approach as he did in college when it comes to the difference in cultures of his college and now pro team.
The Chiefs drafted Felix Anudike-Uzomah, a Kansas City native, with their first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. FAU, as Chiefs Kingdom is starting to call him, played his college ball just down the road too at Kansas State, where he was a part of a dominant 2023 team that won the Big 12 Championship.
But, just because they won the Big 12 Championship, doesn't mean everyone expected them to. K-State had an underdog mentality and was counted out a lot of their season. Now, the Chiefs are a team that is almost expected to have a winning season with a playoff run every year.
So, things are a bit different in terms of a culture change for FAU. For him though, the mentality is the same.
"I feel like it's still an underdog mentality," Anudike-Uzomah said. "Like, I heard there's a lot of rookies that played last year in the Super Bowl and that basically they're going to get some [playing time] and everything like that. And, same with K-State, there's a lot of guys that are underrated that were walk on and they're playing. So I feel like the same mentality is still gonna be there. So basically just transferred that to K-State to here."
The Chiefs have a guy Who is showing he wants to win. That is his mentality. And, yeah, all of the hometown hero stuff with FAU is cool and great, but you can tell when he is being asked questions, he wants to talk football. You can tell he is eager to get out there and play ball.
Just based on what we have heard so far, FAU sounds like the right fit for the Chiefs. Obviously, we haven't heard much from him in terms of his personality, but from what we do know, the kid can play, and he is beyond happy to be playing for the Chiefs.
