The Kansas City Chiefs made a roster move on Friday, which could be great news for one of two returning injured players.

The KC Chiefs announced on X that they had placed DT Marlon Tuipulotu on injured reserve on Friday. Tuipulotu appeared in the team's Week 18 game against the Denver Broncos, recording four tackles. Although he's been rostered for the vast majority of the 2024 NFL season, he was a healthy scratch most weeks due to the sheer number of defensive linemen on the roster.

When a player heads to injured reserve, it's never a good thing. Tuipulotu is dealing with an undisclosed injury, and we hope he gets better soon. However, this particular transaction should excite Chiefs fans. It frees a roster space and signals that one of two players recently designated to return from injured reserve could be approaching activation to the 53-man roster.

The Chiefs currently have two options as far as activation is concerned, with WR Mecole Hardman and CB Jaylen Watson both having their 21-day practice windows opened in Week 18. Hardman would be a bit surprising, given that the Chiefs currently have six healthy receivers on the 53-man roster (DeAndre Hopkins, Hollywood Brown, Justin Watson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Xavier Worthy, and Nikko Remigio). His return, however, would be welcomed. After all, Hardman is Super Bowl LVIII's hero

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid spoke to media members on Friday about Jaylen Watson's progress in his return from injury.

"He worked last week," Reid said of Watson. "He came out of those workouts and felt good. He worked hard today, and we did a lot of one-on-one stuff today, so ones versus ones. And so he was able to get in there and work that. And he looked he looked good. From what I've seen. I haven't gone back and looked at the tape yet, but he looked like he was moving around pretty good."

You can be the judge, but signs seem to point to Watson making his return soon. That'd be a huge development for a Chiefs defense that looked like the best in the NFL when Watson was on the field and starting earlier this season.
