The Kansas City Chiefs are reinforcing their roster and practice squad after injuries that occurred in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers. The team announced several transactions on Tuesday, signing one player to the 53-man roster, two players to the practice squad, and another placed on injured reserve.

The biggest news comes in the cornerback room as the Chiefs signed practice squad CB Keith Taylor to the 53-man roster. He'll immediately work to help replace CB Jaylen Watson, who heads to injured reserve after suffering a fractured ankle. He was one of four cornerbacks on the practice squad and is the first to get an opportunity on the active roster in the wake of Watson's injury.

Taylor originally signed with the Chiefs' practice squad in 2023 and spent the entire season on it. During training camp and the preseason in 2024, he made a pretty strong case for making the initial 53-man roster, but he was ultimately released and re-signed to the practice squad during roster cutdowns.

During the 2024 preseason, Taylor allowed four receptions on nine targets, recording one interception. He also played on the kick coverage and return units, as well as the punt return unit during the preseason. At 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, Taylor could be poised to replace CB Joshua Williams on special teams, with a bigger role expected for Williams on defense in Watson's absence.

In addition to the moves on the 53-man roster, the Chiefs have also made some practice squad transactions. After the Browns poached QB Bailey Zappe, the Chiefs re-signed Chris Oladokun. He'll serve as the team's third quarterback for the time being after playing that role a season ago on the practice squad.

That's not the only reunion, though. Former Chiefs fifth-round draft pick Cornell Powell is back on the practice squad. With all of the receiver injuries, it's not a surprise to see a player like Powell back in the fold for Kansas City. He'll likely help on the scout team while some other players get opportunities to be elevated to the 53-man roster via standard elevation.

These moves might not be flashy, but they'll help sustain a competitive roster as the Chiefs deal with several injuries on both sides of the ball.
