The Kansas City Chiefs will be without their best offensive weapon on Thursday night versus the Lions. Patrick Mahomes will be without one of his best friends, also known as Travis Kelce.

They officially ruled out their star tight end for their season opener. He won't play, according to Jordan Schultz.

It's unfortunate news for the Chiefs and Kelce. He suffered a knee injury during practice this week. Kansas City is erring on the side of caution with this decision. They don't have their next game for ten days, so it makes plenty of sense for the long-term.

It will be Kelce's first career game missed due to injury since 2013.

Expect plenty of opportunities for other pass-catchers tonight for the Chiefs.
