A former AFC West rival is expected to suit up with his new team and get some snaps against the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend.

Some teams like to sit their starters during the preseason, but New Orleans Saints HC Dennis Allen intends to allow his players to get some action. Derek Carr and the rest of the New Orleans starters are expected to play a little bit in their preseason Week 1 debut against the Chiefs on Sunday.

According to The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com columnist Jeff Duncan, the plan is for the Saints' starters to play about 15 snaps. The second string will get around 25 snaps before the third string replaces them for the remainder of the game.

Carr, of course, spent the past nine years as the starting quarterback of the then-Oakland and now Las Vegas Raiders. In 17 games against the Chiefs during his NFL career, Carr's Raiders had just a 3-14 overall record. Only one of those wins came against a team quarterbacked by Patrick Mahomes.

With the next chapter of his career, Carr will surely be looking to get off to a hot start against a team that was a thorn in his side in the AFC West. Kansas City, of course, will look to play spoiler in his New Orleans debut. They too, plan to play the starters. Andy Reid has given a rough estimate of a quarter, but Patrick Mahomes could see just a series of plays as he has in the past.
