The Kansas City Chiefs ended the year on a rough note. Still, losing to the worst team in football, the Las Vegas Raiders, highlights the need for changes in KC. The Chiefs have already begun altering their roster by signing two players to reserve/future contracts at positions of need.

According to Nick Jacobs of KSHB41, the Chiefs have signed former Arkansas Razorbacks receiver Andrew Armstrong and former University of Central Arkansas running back Shunderrick Powell. These may be two of the best players available, and no one knows about them.

Chiefs will love what Armstrong and Powell bring

The Chiefs need a wide receiver who can get open. At this point, it doesn’t really matter how big they are or how fast they are; it’s just someone who can separate, get open, and catch the ball when it’s thrown to them. Armstrong can do that.

Armstrong went undrafted last offseason after having the best season by any receiver in the SEC in his final collegiate season. Armstrong finished with an SEC-leading 1,140 receiving yards and an SEC-leading 78 catches at Arkansas.

He’s also willing to do whatever it takes for his team.

“Whatever they need me to play,” Armstrong said during Arkansas’ 2025 Pro Day. “I feel like, me as a football player, I know so much about man or zones that, when I get out on the field, me personally, I feel like it’s me vs. me. Of course, it’s me vs. him [defender], but only I can stop me. If he does anything that locks me up, I feel like it’s my fault. I feel like I did something wrong, which allowed him to do that. So I feel like if I keep the me vs. me thing, and go out there and do what I do, I’m going to shock a lot of people.”

As for Powell, in college at UCA in 2024, he had over 1,600 scrimmage yards and 17 scrimmage touchdowns. He can run the ball well enough, pass protect a bit, and catch it out of the backfield. As we know, that’s never something Mahomes has really had. Well, he’s never had an elite, dynamic back. That’s not to say Powell will be that, but he’s talented enough to make the 53-man roster.

The Chiefs are getting a head start on their roster building. They also had a tryout for DE Warren Peeples on Tuesday.
