The Kansas City Chiefs are getting reinforcement in their wide receiver room ahead of their Super Bowl LVIII game against the San Francisco 49ers.
According to the NFL's personnel notice for Wednesday, the Chiefs have activated WR Skyy Moore to the 53-man roster from injured reserve. This doesn't necessarily mean that Moore will play in the Super Bowl, but it gives Kansas City the option to make him active come Sunday.
Moore was designated to return on Jan. 17, which means his 21-day practice window has elapsed. Had Kansas City not activated him to the 53-man roster today, he'd be unable to return for the Super Bowl and would have been forced to remain on IR for the big game.
Moore had been on injured reserve since Week 16 after suffering a knee injury the week prior against the New England Patriots.
Chiefs DL Charles Omenihu heads to injured reserve
In a corresponding move, the Chiefs placed DL Charles Omenihu on injured reserve. Omenihu suffered a torn ACL in the AFC Championship Game win over the Baltimore Ravens, but has traveled with the team to Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII.
Omenihu is slated to have surgery on his knee on the Tuesday after the Super Bowl.
What does Skyy Moore bring to the table for the Chiefs?
The 2022 second-round draft pick didn't exactly follow up his rookie campaign as most had hoped. Moore has appeared in 14 NFL games this season with eight starts on the year. He's recorded just 21 receptions on 38 targets for 244 yards and one score.
Moore does, however, bring some level of success in the Super Bowl. In Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles last year, Moore caught a single pass on just one target for four yards and a touchdown. The return of Moore also might not bode well for Kadarius Toney, who seems to be in the doghouse after an Instagram Live rant went viral.
