A timely injury has solved the Kansas City Chiefs' roster crunch at the wide receiver position.
Chiefs HC Andy Reid updated media members after the Week 15 win over the New England Patriots, explaining that WR Skyy Moore had suffered a knee injury. His knee began to swell up on him during the game and the team pulled him from the game because of it.
Moore had been listed on the injury report with a knee injury ahead of Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills, but he was no longer on the injury report this past week. It appeared that he was on the mend, but he aggravated that injury against the Patriots.
The team announced on Monday that they had placed him on injured reserve. He'll miss a minimum of four weeks, which means he'll miss the final five weeks of the regular season and potentially the team's first postseason game.
The Chiefs did not announce a corresponding move, but it's widely expected that WR Justyn Ross will be activated to the 53-man roster in his place.
“We’ll have to see on (Justyn) Ross just to where that goes," Reid said of Ross on Monday. "I’ll get with (General Manager Brett) Veach today, and we’ll go through all of that."
Ross missed Week 15 as he returned from suspension. He was given a roster exemption by the NFL, which officially expires this week.
Alternatively, the Chiefs can designate WR Mecole Hardman to return from injured reserve. His practice window is eligible to be opened after he was placed on injured reserve ahead of Week 12 following surgery on his thumb.
If Moore doesn't play again during the postseason, he'll finish the year with 21 receptions for 244 yards and one receiving touchdown.
