The Kansas City Chiefs are entering their second straight season, losing the wide receiver they had the year before. In 2022, it was Tyreek Hill. This year, it's JuJu Smith-Schuster. That means they are entering their second straight season with a group of receivers that needs someone to step up big-time.
Based on everything we heard before training camp, we thought that the new WR1 would be Kadarius Toney. However, he is already dealing with injury problems, so that isn't someone it looks like the Chiefs will be able to rely on all the time. It has nothing to do with his game, as the skill and talent are there, but everything to do with availability.
Now it seems like someone else is stepping into that role, potentially. Skyy Moore seems to be getting everyone's attention during training camp. The second-year wide receiver is turning heads, for sure.
The Chiefs have a few players entering the 2023 season that are much better than they were a year ago. Cornerback Trent McDuffie is one of those guys. He looks like the best cornerback on the team, even better than L'Jarius Sneed, and he has top-10 potential.
He can play man; he can play zone; he can press; he can do it all. McDuffie has a bright future in the NFL as a guy who can lockdown sides of the field. He and Moore have had their battles this training camp, and while he grabbed an interception on a ball that was thrown to Moore on Monday, McDuffie still had great things to say about Moore.
"Skyy [Moore] is my dog," McDuffie told the media on Monday. "That's definitely someone who, for the last year, I feel like has improved a ton. I mean, you talk about his quickness, his speed off the line, his routes, and just his hands, his overall, just how he's become a better receiver in this league is something that I looked at that has helped me a ton.
"We talk about a few guys that I go against every day, and he's one of them because he's the one who's going to show me the best looks. Give me the best routes, and I love competing against him every day. So it's been a lot of fun coming out here and going against Skyy."
Moore and Patrick Mahomes have connected on the deep ball all throughout camp. As KT has been out, the second-year receiver seems to be the one stepping up to make those game-changing plays. He and Mahomes are clearly establishing chemistry.
McDuffie isn't the only one who has noticed Skyy Moore's transformation.
"Skyy Moore looks like an entirely new player," Safety Justin Reid said on NFL Network.
Last year was tough on Moore. He was thrown onto special teams with no real experience and had a fumbling issue that you could tell affected his confidence a bit. He didn't play a ton on offense because he was a rookie, and in an Andy Reid offense, rookie receivers tend not to play as much because of how complicated everything is.
But when Moore was on offense, it seemed like he caught everything thrown his way. The Chiefs will need him in 2023, especially to start the season, so hearing great things about him should make fans feel better.

The Chiefs have lost some firepower on offense, so they need the former second-rounder to step up in 2023.
