The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t wait long to get involved in 2026 NFL free agency.

Less than an hour after the legal tampering period began, the Chiefs agreed to terms with Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III. It was a big splash that gave the team exactly what they needed at the running back position moving forward. They didn’t stop there, though.

Later, the Chiefs agreed to terms with former Patriots DT Khyiris Tonga. He’s not only a BYU alumnus, which is sure to excite Andy Reid, but he’ll also play some fullback for Kansas City.

The two moves have made for an exciting opening to free agency so far, and the responses they’ve received from players already on the team should get Chiefs Kingdom excited about the direction of the club for the 2026 NFL season and beyond.

Patrick Mahomes and Kingsley Suamataia can’t contain their excitement about RB Kenneth Walker III

Moments after the news broke on the Chiefs’ signing of Kenneth Walker III, the star running back took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a jersey swap graphic announcing to the world that he’s coming to Kansas City. The first reaction to the news came from none other than Patrick Mahomes, who really set the tone in terms of his excitement level.

“LETS GO,” Mahomes wrote in all caps, followed by a pair of exclamation points and flexing emojis.

Chiefs LG Kingsley Suamataia kept it a bit more tame in his reaction, but let’s just say he’s pumped to clear the way for No. 9 in Kansas City.

“Can’t wait to block for you brotha,” Suamataia wrote on X.

Chris Jones was a little late to the party, learning about the news a few hours after it broke. He was so surprised that it elicited a slightly NSFW response.

Jones also caught wind of the deal for Tonga right around the same time, and he’s clearly quite excited about his new pal in the trenches. We’ll have to wait to hear from Jones later this offseason to find out the extent to which he’s familiar with Tonga’s game, but it seems like he likes what he’s seen.

“Tonga is a dawg,” Jones wrote on X.

The best part of it all is that both Walker and Tonga were on opposing sidelines during Super Bowl LX. They’ve tasted glory and defeat in the big game, which fits with the current culture as they look to build on past success and look to the future.
