The NFL family lost one of its all-time greats with the sudden passing of Hall of Fame offensive lineman Larry Allen.

Allen was one of the greatest offensive guards that the league has ever seen. Throughout his 12-year career Allen was named an All-Pro seven times and made the Pro Bowl 11 times. He inspired a future generation of offensive linemen, including Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith.

Smith took to X to pay tribute to Allen and express his regret that he never got to meet him.

Smith and Allen share some physical traits, such as playing around the 325-pound mark, although Smith is three inches taller than Allen was. Despite having yet to earn any All-Pro or Pro Bowl accolades, Smith has established himself as one of the best guards in the NFL. He has been a cornerstone piece of the Chiefs' offensive line since he was drafted in 2021 and has been a part of two of Kansas City's last three Super Bowl wins.

Smith is entering a contract year in 2024 and will be looking to cash out big next offseason. The Chiefs will have a tough decision to make on whether or not they will be the ones to give him that big contract, especially with center Creed Humphrey also being due for a new contract as well.

Smith has a lot of work to do to get to a Hall of Fame trajectory like his hero Allen, but he could have a shot if he can start getting some of those accolades under his belt. He came close to cracking the Pro Bowl roster last year as he was named as an alternate and was snubbed in 2022 after having a very good season.
