When Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce recorded his 1,000 reception during the team's Christmas Day matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he also broke a franchise record.
Patrick Mahomes connected with Kelce for a 12-yard touchdown, officially marking his 77th touchdown. And with that, Kelce passed Tony Gonzalez for the most receiving touchdowns in franchise history.
Afterwards, he celebrated in the perfect way.
Kelce brought back the iconic crossbar dunk celebration that Gonzalez popularized during his time in the league. And with that, Gonzalez vowed to pick up the tab if Kelce gave him that shout-out after he breaks the record.
"If he dunks it, I will pay that fine," Gonzalez said.
Kelce was fined $14,069 for unsportsmanlike conduct (use of prop) following that game.
However, while it was a nice gesture by Gonzalez, Kelce said that the former Chiefs star didn't have to pay. But, Gonzalez insisted.
So, Kelce decided to do something incredible with that money.
"Oh my God…the NFL had the nerve to fine you for that s—, like come on man. Relax, relax," Lebron James said on the latest episode of New Heights.
"It was a fine well worth it," Travis Kelce replied. "In fact, Tony [Gonzalez] helped me out with that one but instead of throwing any money at me I just told him to send it to the foundation, so shoutout to Tony G, you're a real one."
Kelce's Eight-Seven & Running Foundation "empowers disadvantaged youth to achieve success by providing resources and support to their communities and cultivating their talent in the areas of education, business, athletics, STEM, and the arts. Eighty-Seven and Running Foundation seeks to change the outcomes of underserved youth in communities across the U.S. by creating access to opportunities, enrichment, and advancement."
What an incredible move by Kelce and Gonzalez.
