A high-ranking member of the Kansas City Chiefs organization has publicly acknowledged the developing situation surrounding WR Rashee Rice for the first time.
Chiefs team president Mark Donovan recently joined KCMO Talk Radio’s Pete Mundo to discuss the upcoming 3/8 cent tax vote on Tuesday, April 2. During the interview, Donovan was asked about Rice after a car registered in Rice's name was involved in an accident in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, March 30.
“In all these situations you have to wait until you have all the facts and frankly, we don’t have all the facts at this point,” Donovan explained. “The one comforting fact that we do have is that there was a multi-car crash in [Dallas, Texas], and fortunately, it doesn’t appear that anyone was hurt and we should be grateful for that. We’ll get to the bottom of it. We’ll gather the facts and we’ll react accordingly.”
This is a fair response from Donovan, who isn't typically involved in the player side of the organization, so much as he is with the business side of things. His response is consistent with how the franchise has handled past off-field incidents with players such as Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill, Willie Gay Jr., and Justyn Ross.
Rice's level of involvement in the vehicle accident in Dallas, Texas remains unclear as of Monday, April 1. What is known is that a vehicle registered to Rice was involved in the multi-vehicle accident. The accident is suspected to have occurred because of street racing.
Initial reports indicated that Dallas Police sought Rice for questioning. According to a report from CBS Sports' Josina Anderson, Rice has since retained legal counsel. His lawyers are expected to release a statement on the incident as early as Monday.
