The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade franchise-tagged CB L'Jarius Sneed ahead of the start of the 2024 NFL free agency period.

According to multiple reports, the Chiefs are sending Sneed to the Tennessee Titans. In return, they're expected to receive a 2025 third-round pick and a 2024 seventh-round pick. Per Adam Schefter, the trade is pending a physical for Sneed.

A former fourth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech in 2020, Sneed has established himself as a shutdown cornerback in the NFL. In four seasons with Kansas City, he's amassed 303 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, 10 interceptions, 40 passes defended, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. He didn't allow a single touchdown in coverage during the 2023 NFL regular season, all while having played the most defensive snaps (991) of any player in Kansas City.

A two-time world champion in Super Bowl LVII and Super Bowl LVIII, Sneed brings postseason experience to the AFC South. Expect Sneed's contract to exceed Chicago Bears CB Jaylon Johnson's four-year $76 million contract in both per year average and guaranteed money.

The Chiefs' secondary will certainly miss Sneed, but the cornerback room is still one of the deepest position groups in Kansas City, headlined by third-year CB Trent McDuffie. All of the third-year corners should contribute in some way, as the only thing they've ever known is Super Bowl victories.

Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams are players to watch after playing a combined 761 defensive snaps. Don't forget about CB Nazeeh Johnson, who I'm told the Chiefs have big plans for. Johnson was trending to start opposite Sneed and McDuffie in the team's nickel package before he suffered a season-ending knee injury during the team's 2023 training camp.
