Updated Kansas City Chiefs 2026 NFL Draft picks following trade to send CB Trent McDuffie to Rams
The Kansas City Chiefs have a boat load of picks in the 2026 NFL Draft after the Trent McDuffie trade.
The Kansas City Chiefs just agreed to a trade that will set the franchise up to rebuild the roster in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Chiefs agreed to send CB Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams. In return, they’ll receive a first-round pick, a fifth-round pick, a sixth-round pick in 2026, and a 2027 third-round pick. The move gives Kansas City nine selections in the 2026 NFL Draft as things currently stand. Knowing that Brett Veach likes to move around and be selective, it’s highly likely that they won’t make all nine of those picks.
Some things you need to know about the 2026 NFL Draft: The Chiefs do not own their sixth-round pick, which transferred to the New England Patriots as part of the Josh Uche trade in 2024. One thing that is currently unknown is whether they own their seventh-round draft pick, which was included in the Peyton Hendershot trade as a conditional draft pick. Because Kansas City released Hendershot, it’s unclear whether the team met the thresholds for the pick to transfer to Dallas. For the purposes of this article, we’re going to assume it did.
Another important note: the NFL has not yet awarded compensatory picks for the 2026 NFL Draft. The Chiefs are projected to receive a fifth-round compensatory selection for the loss of S Justin Reid to the New Orleans Saints in 2025 free agency. All picks after Round 3 won’t have official pick numbers until the league officially awards compensatory picks in early March.

Current Facts and Stats for the 2026 NFL Draft

- The 2026 NFL Draft is the 91st annual event.
- It’ll be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from April 23–25, 2026.
This now marks the second time that Chiefs GM Brett Veach has had two first-round picks in a single draft class. The last time they had two first-round picks was the 2022 NFL season, following the Tyreek Hill trade. Ironically, they selected Trent McDuffie at pick No. 21 and George Karlaftis at pick No. 30 in that draft. The last time the Chiefs held pick No. 29, it was actually a Round 2 selection in the 1978 NFL Draft. The team selected DT Sylvester Hicks out of Tennessee State. Before that, the Chiefs took franchise legend WR Otis Taylor at pick No. 29 in the 1965 AFL Draft.
