The NFL has tabled discussions regarding whether or not the league wants to start flexing Thursday Night Football games in the future.
Why it was even brought to the table, in the first place, is questionable, at best. This is easily one of the NFL's dumbest ideas in a very, very long time. And if it's passed, it's going to really affect teams and their respective fans.
Hell, it'll even affect opposing fans. It will literally affect everyone involved.
There has been a solid amount of people speaking out against the idea. From NFL legends like J.J. Watt to owners like John Mara, many are making their distaste with the idea.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes tweeted his dislike of the NFL's decision to increase the amount of games teams can play from one to two. On Thursday, veteran safety Justin Reid joined his superstar teammate in protest of the whole flexing idea, in general.
Reid and Mahomes are 100% correct. In Reid's instance, the logistics behind this potential change would be an absolute nightmare. The overwhelming majority of Thursday night games suck, anyway. Why in the hell would complicating the process make things any better?
This whole situation is a move to satisfy Amazon because they paid $1 billion for rights to the TNF package. The decision to increase the games gives TNF more opportunities to showcase good/elite teams instead of the bottom-feeders that were once required to fill out the slate. And, obviously, flexing games allows them to completely take advantage of late-season matchups where injuries are always at its highest risk of happening.
Talks will pick up again in late May. Let's just hope the insanity ends, there.
