Chiefs’ injury attrition in Week 13 vs. Cowboys reaches doomsday levels with rookie LT Josh Simmons now sidelined
The Kansas City Chiefs are down to their last backup offensive lineman and no more backup offensive tackles.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive line is seemingly down another starter with one quarter left to play in Week 13 vs. the Dallas Cowboys.
Chiefs rookie LT Josh Simmons joins RT Jawaan Taylor (elbow) and S Bryan Cook (ankle) as the third starter injured in the Thanksgiving Day game. Simmons suffered a wrist injury late in the third quarter of the game. He wasn’t spotted in the injury tent on the sidelines, but he was taken out of the game before the team eventually announced him as questionable to return due to a wrist injury.
The team would rule Simmons out shortly after ruling him questionable to return.
All of these injuries make you wonder about the short week and whether guys were really able to get prepared to play. The Cowboys haven’t been without injuries either, as they’re dealing with two injuries in the secondary.
As for the Chiefs’ plan with Simmons sidelined, it has reached a doomsday scenario, with the last man standing at offensive tackle stepping in at left tackle.
Chiefs LT Josh Simmons replaced by backup OT Wanya Morris
Wanya Morris came into the game on the final six plays of the Chiefs’ 11-play, 80-yard touchdown drive. That’s because Jaylon Moore is already at the right tackle position in place of Jawaan Taylor. The Chiefs have no more offensive tackles available for this Week 13 game. If they have another injury, they will have to play someone out of position. Their only remaining backup offensive lineman in the game is Hunter Nourzad.
Morris, of course, started 11 games for the Chiefs in 2024 at the left tackle spot for Kansas City. There’s a reason that he’s the team’s No. 4 offensive tackle on the 53-man roster right now, though. Having him in the game drastically alters the passing-game plan for chip help, handling stunts, and blitzes.
