Chiefs’ Week 7 Snap Counts vs. Raiders: Kansas City rookie defender plays first career defensive snaps in blowout vs. Las Vegas
The Kansas City Chiefs got plenty of backup players involved in Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Kansas City Chiefs won their fourth game of the 2025 NFL season in quite the dominant fashion, with a 31-0 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7.
The Chiefs began benching their starters on the offensive side of the ball late in the third quarter, so the snap counts are rather skewed this week. However, that allowed us to see some of the team’s backups in action on the offensive and defensive side off the ball, which doesn’t happen all too often in the regular season.
Below you’ll find analysis and a look at how the snaps played out in Week 7. Snap data via the NFL Game Stats & Information System.

Chiefs rookie LB Jeffrey Bassa sees first action on defense
To this point in the 2025 NFL season, Chiefs rookie LB Jeffrey Bassa had played on only special teams with 103 total snaps, recording three combined tackles. He played nine defensive snaps on Sunday, all of them coming in the fourth quarter against the Raiders. While he didn’t record any stats in the box score on those nine snaps, he did get some valuable work that will help him improve down the line. The fifth-round pick allowed one reception on one target against Raiders WR Tre Tucker for 14 yards. Bassa is probably lucky that it wasn’t more given that Tucker is a speedy receiver and he’s a 6-foot-2 and 235-pound linebacker.
Mike Caliendo is No. 4 on the depth chart for the Chiefs among interior offensive linemen
I guess it shouldn’t be terribly surprising that a guy who started in the Super Bowl and was billed as competition for Kingsley Suamataia this offseason is the Chiefs’ top backup interior offensive linemen. It is at least mildly interesting to see Caliendo replace an injured Trey Smith at right guard instead of either Hunter Nourzad or Wanya Morris, who were the other two active offensive linemen on Sunday. Caliendo played 65 offensive snaps against the Raiders, the majority of which coming at right guard, with at least one snap as an extra offensive lineman before Smith was injured. Caliendo made the most of the opportunity as well, allowing no sacks or pressures on the 32 of those snaps that came on passing downs.
Chiefs WR Rashee Rice plays a healthy amount in his return to action
In his first NFL regular-season game in over 380 days, Rice played 33 total snaps against the Raiders. In those 33 snaps, he was target 10 times with seven receptions for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Certainly not a bad performance for Rice, coming off of both a suspension and a knee injury. It’s safe to say that he’s going to be a focal point and a big part of what the Chiefs do on offense moving forward. Expect even more snaps for Rice in Week 8 against the Washington Commanders on “Monday Night Football.”
Other quick-hitting Chiefs snap count observations:
- Chiefs backup QB Gardner Minshew played 17 offensive snaps, including a snap where he and Patrick Mahomes were both on the field at the same time. Unfortunately a mistimed hard count, caused Mike Caliendo to false start on the play. It looked like it would’ve been a touchdown had the play not been blown dead.
- Chamarri Conner didn’t play 100% of the defensive snaps this week, but he did play the most defensive snaps of any player on the team.
- Rookies Nohl Williams and Brashard Smith each played their highest percentage of defensive and offensive snaps, respectively.
- Rookie LB Cooper McDonald also saw his first defensive snaps in Week 7 with four snaps.
