Disturbing allegations against Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice in civil lawsuit further complicate his NFL future
Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice now faces a civil lawsuit alleging domestic abuse.

The mother of Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice’s two children, Dacoda Jones, has filed a civil lawsuit against the NFL receiver in Dallas County, Texas. This comes after Jones took to social media in a now-deleted post to levy allegations of domestic abuse against Rice in January.
The civil complaint seeks up to $1 million in punitive damages after multiple alleged assaults occurring in both Texas and Missouri from 2023 to 2025.
“Rice has grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit, and headbutted Ms. Jones, as well as hit her with inanimate objects,” the complaint alleges.
Jones also claims she was pregnant during several of the alleged assaults.
The lawsuit indicates “violent and abusive behaviors” from Rice toward Jones, including the destruction of property and locking Jones out of their shared residence at night.

The Chiefs released a new statement on the matter, per ESPN’s Nate Taylor: “The club is aware & remains in communication with the National Football League.”
The NFL also maintains that the matter is under review for violations of the league’s personal conduct policy.
Rashee Rice’s attorney, Sean Lindsay, released the following statement:
“On October 9th, 2025, well after the parties’ relationship had ended, Ms. Jones stated under penalty of perjury in a sworn Affidavit for Non-Prosecution that ‘Mr. Rice and I had a verbal argument, but he did not punch me.’ We will allow the legal process to run its course and have no further comment at this time.”
The Chiefs cannot rely on Rashee Rice to stay on the field
They say in the NFL that the greatest ability is availability. Since entering the league as a second-round pick out of SMU in the 2023 NFL Draft, Rice has appeared in just 32 combined regular-season and postseason games out of 58 possible games. Between injury and off-field issues, he simply hasn’t been reliable in the early goings of his career.
Rice missed a total of eight games during the 2025 NFL season. He was suspended for the first six games of the year, stemming from his Dallas-area car crash during the 2024 NFL offseason. He missed the final two games of the season after being placed on injured reserve with a concussion.
It remains to be seen whether Rice is found to have violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy again, but it’s worth noting that the league mandates harsher punishment for repeat offenders. That means Rice could face another suspension that would keep him off the field in Kansas City in 2026, and it’d likely be longer than his six-game suspension to start 2025.
Beyond that, Rice was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation after he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his 2024 offseason vehicle crash. It’s currently unclear whether these new allegations could lead to the revocation of his probation.
With a contract year ahead for Rice in 2026, he’s no closer to proving to the Chiefs that he deserves a second contract, let alone an opportunity to continue playing in the league.
