The Kansas City Chiefs finally know exactly how much time WR Rashee Rice will miss due to suspension during the 2025 NFL season.

On Saturday, March 30, 2024, Rice was involved in a multi-vehicle accident in Dallas, Texas. He resolved his criminal and civil cases stemming from the crash on July 17, 2025, when he was sentenced to five years of probation and 30 days in jail. At that point, the NFL initiated an investigation into Rice for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Rice requested an arbitrator dually appointed by the NFL and the NFLPA to hear his case, which reportedly left him eligible to play from Week 1 through Week 4 of the 2025 season. However, he has since agreed to and will finalize a deal with the NFL that will see him suspended to start the year.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Rice agreed to a six-game suspension. The league has a baseline suspension length for first-time violators, which is the case for Rice; however, various circumstances can lead to larger suspensions at the league’s discretion. There are also mitigating factors that can contribute to reducing the length of suspensions.

The suspension will officially take place at the start of the 2025 NFL season. In other words, he’ll soon be placed on the Reserve/Suspended list. He’ll be allowed to participate in team meetings, rehab, and train at team facilities after Week 3 against the New York Giants. However, he won’t officially be restored to the active roster until preparations begin for the Chiefs’ Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

What games and opponents will he miss out on facing? Here’s a look.

Which teams will Chiefs WR Rashee Rice miss games against?

  • Week 1: @ Los Angeles Chargers (Sao Paolo, Brazil) – Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m. CT on YouTube
  • Week 2: vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Super Bowl LIX rematch) – Sunday, Sept. 14 at 3:25 p.m. CT on FOX

This is likely the best-case scenario for Kansas City, despite a tough stretch of games early in the season. It also explains the Chiefs’ decision to keep eight receivers on the initial 53-man roster.
