An eventful offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs continues with a rookie getting a not-so-warm welcome from his new home.
As first reported by NBC Sports, Chiefs rookie WR Xavier Worthy had his car stolen overnight from the parking garage at his apartment complex. Team sources have since confirmed the story to FOX 4 Kansas City.
This doesn't appear to be just some smash-and-grab car robbery either. Apparently, the car was stolen by a group of professional car thieves (think "Gone in 60 Seconds") per NBC Sports.
"As one source put it, the car was stolen from a residential parking garage by a professional group of criminals who 'knew exactly what they were doing.'"
Thankfully, Worthy and no one else was injured during the theft as it happened overnight. Were Worthy and his vehicle specifically targeted by this group? The car theft and the early circumstances surrounding it certainly raise questions.
FOX 4 Kansas City currently awaits a response from the Kansas City police department for more information about the robbery, vehicle, and whether they currently have any suspects.
Worthy, a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, will begin voluntary OTAs in Kansas City next Monday.
