Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy is expected to play on “Monday Night Football” against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5 at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, according to one NFL Insider.

Worthy was a late addition to the injury report on Sunday after the team arrived in Jacksonville. He reportedly experienced swelling in one of his ankles after the flight from Kansas City, Missouri. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport broke down the injury news on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.”

“Kansas City Chiefs had a little sort of injury scare, I would say,” Rapoport began. “Yesterday, Xavier Worthy popped up on the injury report with an ankle, along with his shoulder. My understanding is kind of just turned his ankle a little bit, woke up swollen. They put it on the report. He is fine. He is expected to go. More of a precaution than anything else. Worthy has been excellent since he returned, playing with that torn labrum.”

Worthy, of course, made his return from a Week 1 shoulder injury in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens, accounting for over 110 yards of total offense on seven touches in his return. He has been listed on the injury report all week with a torn labrum, but the ankle injury was something new that surfaced on Sunday. A serious ankle injury doesn’t just pop up overnight, so I tend to agree with Rapoport’s assertion that Worthy was added to the injury report as a precaution.

Ian Rapoport thinks Jaguars DL Travon Walker is a long shot to play

In other injury-relevant news to Monday evening’s game, Rapoport doesn’t believe that Jaguars DL Travon Walker will play against the Chiefs in Week 5. Walker suffered a wrist injury in Week 4 that required minor surgery. He was seen in practice on Saturday wearing a pretty substantial club on his injured hand.

“And then Travon Walker, the Jacksonville Jaguars star edge, former No. 1 overall pick, two sacks so far this season,” Rapoport said. “He actually had wrist surgery this week, this week. Still, listed as questionable. Feels to me like a long shot for him to be able to be out there. They want to leave it up to him how he feels tonight, but certainly seems like, more likely than not, Walker will be watching his first game post-surgery.”

If Walker can’t go on Monday night, it’d be a big loss for the Jaguars. He has the second-most sacks so far this season behind DT Arik Armstead (2.5).

Expert analysis on Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy’s ankle injury

  • The Chiefs adhere to strict protocols when it comes to injury reporting. If a player receives treatment for something, they’re required to be on the injury report. Worthy’s swelling wasn’t just something they were going to slap some dirt on, even if it’s believed to be minor.
