The Kansas City Chiefs got some unfortunate news on one of their star players just a day before they’ll face the Jacksonville Jaguars on “Monday Night Football.”

The team announced on Sunday evening that WR Xavier Worthy had been assigned a game status designation of questionable for Monday night’s game against the Jaguars. Everyone knows about the shoulder injury suffered in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Worthy is now dealing with an ankle injury that wasn’t previously listed on the team’s final injury report.

It’s unclear when Worthy sustained said ankle injury. The team arrived in Jacksonville at approximately 5:15 p.m. ET on Sunday. It’s possible that Worthy suffered the ankle injury in an early-morning walkthrough on Sunday ahead of the team’s travel. The fact that he is only listed as questionable and not ruled out suggests that it’s something minor and the team still expects him to play on Monday night.

According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, Worthy’s ankle swelled up after the team’s travel on Sunday. Wolfe says Worthy was added to the injury report as a precaution. Worthy will test out the ankle pregame.

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy was an offensive catalyst in Week 4 vs. the Ravens

Needless to say, Worthy missing this Monday night game would be a massive loss for Kansas City. He was the spark that ignited and opened up the Chiefs’ offense in Week 4 against the Ravens. He wasn’t the only one having a big day, but he created space in the intermediate passing game for others to feast as well.

“I think it did,” Chiefs OC Matt Nagy said of Xavier Worthy opening up the offense on Friday. “And I think we knew that going into it. We felt that going into Brazil that first game, we thought it was going to be similar to that, and then three plays later, you know, you lose that, but that’s football… That’s a weapon that Coach Reid and Brett Veach brought in, so you want to be able to have those tools. And what’s going on right now in that room, in the locker room, it’s organically turning into, like, just a bunch of guys that are they’re playing fast, they’re confident, they’re happy, they’re having fun, and that’s contagious.”

Xavier Worthy’s Stats in Week 4 vs. Ravens:

  • Targets: Eight
  • Receptions: Five
  • Receiving Yards: 83
  • Carries: Two
  • Rushing Yards: 38
  • Total yards: 121

Worthy is a complete receiver, but his superpower is his speed. If his ankle injury limits that in any way, that’ll be a big issue for Kansas City to overcome. At the same time, his presence alone seems to have sparked something in his teammates, including QB Patrick Mahomes.
