The Kansas City Chiefs have downgraded WR Xavier Worthy to out for the Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. This comes after Worthy was given a slim chance to play by Chiefs HC Andy Reid on Friday.

“I’d probably tell you it’s slim, but there’s still a chance,” he said.

Worthy was officially listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report after shockingly logging a pair of limited practices. He has only missed a single practice so far as he nurses a separated shoulder. Even though Worthy won’t be returning to action for the Super Bowl LIX rematch, his status for Week 3 against the New York Giants is looking up.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid says Xavier Worthy’s outlook moving forward is a positive one

There seems to be some optimism in the building after the practice week that Worthy had. He was notably seen making a one-handed catch with his injured arm during warm-ups at practice on Friday.

Andy Reid was asked about the outlook for Worthy moving forward in his brief media availability with reporters on Friday.

“Yeah, he’s (Xavier Worthy) doing very well,” Reid said. “He’s doing very well. (It’s) positive, all the stuff is positive.”

Of course, there’s always history to lean on as well. Worthy played through a broken hand for a portion of the 2022 college football season, which speaks to his toughness. Just the fact that he’s back and practicing has already impressed veteran-in-the-room, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster.

“Yeah, I mean, it says a lot about his character,” Smith-Schuster said on Friday. “I mean, he’s (Xavier Worthy) a guy that’s been playing through injuries in the past, and that’s something that he’s preached about. So, just seeing him out there, catching balls (and) moving around just shows that whether it’s a small injury or a big injury, he’s pushing through to be back.”

There’s also the fact that the Chiefs play the Giants on “Sunday Night Football,” giving Worthy ever-slightly more time to recover.
