The Kansas City Chiefs got a few steals in the draft last year. They were able to snag a few defensive backs on day three of the draft that ended up making huge plays in the AFC Championship and the Super Bowl. But they also got a receiver in Skyy Moore who scored a touchdown in the Super Bowl, and Trent McDuffie who will be a cornerback one before we know it.
But the one guy it seems like doesn't get talked about enough is George Karlaftis, who fell in the draft and the Chiefs snagged. He had an incredible rookie season and was one of the best pass rushers in his class.
Karlaftis finished 2022 with six sacks, and went on a tear during his final seven games, getting 5.5 sacks during that stretch. He was an animal on the outside, and working with Chris Jones and Frank Clark only help last season.
But, it seems he could get even better, especially when you see who it is he is working out with this offseason.
If you are on Chiefs' Twitter, then you likely saw the video of Karlaftis working out with Chiefs' legend Tamba Hali, who is one of the best pass rushers in Chiefs history.
Hali finished his Chiefs career with 89 sacks in just nine seasons, which is the second most in Chiefs history just behind the late great Derrick Thomas who finished with 126.
Working with a guy like Hali, who had refined pass-rush skills, was great with his hands, and had a ton of power, will only make Karlaftis better. I think we will see the results when training camp rolls around too.
Could this next year be the breakout year that pushes Karlaftis into that double-digit sack area? Only time will tell.
