Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire has a plan for life after football, and it's not the typical route for most athletes to take.

The fourth-year RB revealed to KSHB-41 that he has been attending nursing school, something he wasn't able to finish up during his time at LSU.

"It's close to my heart," Edwards-Helaire told reporters. "My mom is a nurse and my little sister was born with muscular dystrophy. So it's just one of those things… Football is football, but I know for my profession what I want to do for the rest of my life."

Edwards-Helaire wouldn't be the first Chief to join the medical field. Former Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, who played in Kansas City from 2014-2021, became a doctor in 2018 while playing football and even opted out of playing during the 2020 season in order to help people during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will be a long and busy road for Edwards-Helaire to complete nursing school while he plays football, because balancing the two can prove to be difficult. The Chiefs RB noted that the toughest part about nursing school is the scheduling, but he takes advantage of his free time to complete classes.

"It's enjoyable because it kinda feels like college," he said. "There's nothing to do out here (while it's snowing) so I'm not doing anything else but leaving work and going to do school stuff. Shout out to my fiancée, she's helping me with the scheduling."

Edwards-Helaire, who is in the final year of his contract with the Chiefs, has 411 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns this season serving as the team's backup RB behind Isiah Pacheco.
