Micah Parsons’ Super Bowl LVIII Patrick Mahomes tweet resurfaces after Cowboys star formally requests trade from Dallas
Patrick Mahomes and Micah Parsons share a strong mutual respect for each other. Could it bring the Cowboys star to Kansas City?
Things are getting a little uncomfortable in Dallas after Cowboys star pass-rusher Micah Parsons formally requested his trade from the club after months of messy contract negotiations gone south.
“I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys,” Parsons wrote in a statement. “My trade has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally.”
With the former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year now seemingly on his way out of Dallas, fans are salivating at the thought of adding a Parsons to their team. In four seasons with the Cowboys, he’s amassed 52.5 sacks, never dipping below twelve sacks in a given season.
While a potential trade that would find Parsons sent to the Kansas City Chiefs seems highly unlikely, that hasn’t stopped fans from dreaming. Chiefs Kingdom is making it a point to resurrect a tweet by Parsons during Super Bowl LVIII, in which he declared Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes as the “Greatest Of All Time.”
“Pat mahomes =GOAT,” Parsons exclaimed after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII win against the San Francisco 49ers. “Idc we never seen someone on this pace and level ever!!”
Mutual respect between Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, Cowboys’ Micah Parsons is abundantly clear
Parsons and Mahomes share an evident mutual respect. This was made clear back when the two first faced off during Parsons’ Defensive Rookie of the Year season in 2021.
“I mean, his throw power, his ability to throw no-looks,” Parsons said of Mahomes in 2021, via the late Mark Lane. “This is a guy I like on Madden. My first time playing him, so I’m really excited to see what he does in person. He’s just a terrific player, a future Hall of Famer, a guy who’s done it all so early in his career.”
After the game, Mahomes gave Parsons his flowers.
“He’s a special player,” Mahomes said of Parsons after the Chiefs’ 19-9 win over the Cowboys in Nov. 2021. “I mean, to be that good of a linebacker and be able to play defensive end, there’s not a lot of guys like that in this league. He has a high motor. He chased me down on that sack, the strip-sack, and the whole game he was in there the whole time battling and battling.”
The reality of a trade is certainly far-fetched, but you won’t find someone like Mahomes complaining, should it happen. Chiefs All-Pro CB Trent McDuffie is still needing a long-term deal, and the team is hovering around $20 million in salary cap space. However, should the Chiefs feel that players like Josh Simmons and Kingsley Suamataia are the real deal at left tackle and left guard, it could embolden GM Brett Veach to swing for the fences. The problem is, they’ll have to compete with 30 other NFL teams that likely have better assets when it comes to getting a deal done.
