12-year veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has never played in a conference championship game.
That changes this Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs host the Buffalo Bills for the AFC Championship. An opportunity like this is why Hopkins wanted to come to Kansas City, and the Chiefs acquired him so he can help them win big games like these.
Hopkins has recorded 41 catches for 437 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games with the Chiefs since they traded for him back in October. The last game that Hopkins played before joining K.C. was against the Bills as a member of the Tennessee Titans. He lost that matchup, and was held to just one catch on the day.
Hopkins faced off against Buffalo yet again in Week 11 as a Chief, losing once more. It was another quiet outing for him as he posted three catches for 29 yards. When asked if there's anything from those previous two matchups that he can carry over to this Sunday, Hopkins kept his answer simple.
"This year I'm 0-2 against those guys," Hopkins said. "So, hopefully I can go out and get a win. They beat me when I was in Tennessee, and they beat me when I came here. So, I got some familiarity with them. And I played them in previous years as well. They are a good defense, good team. We just got to go out and execute."
Hopkins hasn't made a big impact for the Chiefs as of late, catching just six passes for 44 yards over his last three games, and hasn't found the endzone since Week 14. Last week in the divisional round against the Houston Texans Hopkins was held without a single reception on one target. With only two possible games left, perhaps Hopkins is saving his best for last – and he gets a little revenge against Buffalo in the process.
