The Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of big decisions to make at the wide receiver position before the 2024 season begins.

ESPN writer Aaron Schatz thinks the Chiefs will take care of their wideout issues by making huge moves in both free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft. In his latest piece, Schatz suggested that the Chiefs should sign Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans, who is scheduled to become a free agent in March.

Here's what Schatz had to say:

"Start with the best player on the market — and he just happens to have a ring of his own already. Yes, Evans will be 31 years old this year, but he's still playing at a high level. Evans ranked 23rd in DVOA among qualifying wide receivers last season and has 10 straight years with at least 1,000 receiving yards. And he's money in the red zone, with 13 touchdowns last season. Imagine Patrick Mahomes throwing to Evans on one side with Rashee Rice on the other side and Travis Kelce in the middle. It's enough for Chiefs Kingdom to already start planning another celebration."

But, in his mind, the Chiefs won't be done there. In addition to picking up Evans, Schatz likes the Chiefs to pick a WR at pick No. 32, suggesting Florida State's Keon Coleman as a top option.

This would give the Chiefs a pass-catching squad of tight end Travis Kelce and receivers Rashee Rice, Evans and Coleman (or another draftee) in 2024. That's an attractive quartet for quarterback Patrick Mahomes to throw to, especially considering Evans has earned over 1,000 yards in each of his 10 NFL seasons.

However, the one thing standing in the Chiefs' way of this plan is price. A to Z Sports projects that Evans will cost about $25 million per year, which would be a lot for a Kansas City team that may opt to use its cap space to retain talent like defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L'Jarius Sneed.

A more cost-effective approach to Schatz's plans for the Chiefs would be for them to still draft a receiver at pick No. 32, but add a cheaper alternative in free agency as well. Guys like Vikings' K.J. Osborn or Bengals' Tyler Boyd — players who could be productive in Kansas City's offense while not breaking the bank.

Those players obviously aren't as appealing as Evans, but considering the Chiefs just won two Super Bowls in a row without signing expensive receivers, they can probably do without one again in 2024.
