There's going to be a lot of speculation this week when it comes to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and how effective he'll be against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday in the AFC Championship game.
I think everyone knows Mahomes is going to play — it'll be nearly impossible to keep him off the field, despite his high ankle sprain.
But what version of Mahomes are we going to see? Will he still be able to provide his "Mahomes magic"?
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, one of the most well-connected men in professional sports, seems to think he'll be able to provide some magic.
"He’ll be out there, he’s Patrick Mahomes and he’ll still have the opportunity to make more Mahomes magic, despite not being 100 percent," said Schefter on ESPN on Monday.
Schefter obviously isn't the Chiefs' facility, so he doesn't know firsthand how Mahomes is responding to the ankle injury.
But Schefter talks to everyone important in the NFL on a near-daily basis. If he's hearing that Mahomes will still be able to make some Mahomes magic, then that's the situation.
I think it's safe to say that whatever Schefter is putting out is essentially how people inside the building in Kansas City are feeling.
Mahomes still has to go out there and performed against the Bengals, and he definitely won't be 100 percent, but it sounds like the Chiefs are still confident in his ability to get the job done and beat Cincinnati.
