ESPN hosted their award show, the ESPYs, on Wednesday night, where the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes were up for their own respected awards.
For the Chiefs, they were up for the "Team of the Year Award" and Mahomes up for the "NFL Player of the Year Award."
Well, Mahomes ended up walking away with more hardware. Not only does he now have two regular season MVPs, two Super Bowl MVPs, and the rings to go along with them, but he now has an ESPY award too. However, he may not even care about that. He also ended up winning the award for best male athlete. He won both awards in 2019, his first MVP season.
Mahomes is gearing up for an attempt to repeat as Super Bowl champions, where the Chiefs would be the first team to do so since the 2005 New England Patriots. That's a pretty big deal.
Not to mention, this year, he will be with yet another new supporting cast of receivers, outside of the new ones she had last year. The Chiefs lost JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman in free agency.
Also, not to mention, there is always the chance this could be the last year for Andy Reid. There were rumors of him retiring after the Super Bowl win, and he said he would run it back. We don't know if he will be back in 2024.
This season is very important for Mahomes.
So, sorry if this sounds rude, but he likely doesn't care about this award that much. Sure, he will show up and smile, look happy, and be with his family, but he would rather be in the gym, grinding to get back to where he was in February.
