ESPN reporter contradicts Chiefs HC Andy Reid regarding how WR Rashee Rice will be utilized upon his return from suspension
We will see on Sunday vs. the Raiders.
As we well know by now, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has completed his six-game suspension and will make his 2025 debut against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7.
We haven’t seen Rice in regular season action since Week 4 of 2024 when he sustained a season-ending knee injury. However, we got a glimpse of him during Week 3 of the 2025 preseason when he caught two passes for 13 yards and a touchdown.
Rice should be ready to contribute right off the bat after fully participating in training camp this past summer. As far as how much he will produce, Chiefs coach Andy Reid was non-committal about how heavily Rice will be involved in the gameplan versus Las Vegas given that it will be his first game back. However, a new report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler contradicts that sentiment.
New ESPN report states that Chiefs will immediately give Rashee Rice a heavy workload
From Jeremy Fowler: “The Chiefs won’t be easing Rashee Rice back into action. They will be allocating a heavy workload for him as soon as possible. Rice, who returns from suspension this week, has been in the building for weeks, had an excellent training camp and is in peak physical shape. A team source says Rice will be “full bore” this week as he gets back onto the practice field. The Chiefs have long envisioned an offense with a receiving trio of Rice, Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown on the same field, with Tyquan Thornton and JuJu Smith-Schuster as complementary guys. That’s a really strong five-man receiving group.”
It makes sense that Reid would play coy about how he will handle Rice. There’s really no reason to ease him back with Rice having been back at the facility over the past couple of weeks.
When WR Xavier Worthy returned from injury in Week 4, he was involved early and often, touching the ball seven times and racking up 121 total yards. A home matchup against a poor Raiders secondary is the perfect opportunity to get Rice some significant work and back in the swing of things.
