Chiefs free agent positional preview: Kansas City could use a quality slot CB to round out its secondary

The Kansas City Chiefs have a good pair of starting cornerbacks in Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson.
However, quality depth behind them is an issue. Other CBs the Chiefs have under contract for 2025 include Joshua Williams, Christian Roland-Wallace, Darius Rush, and Eric Scott Jr.
That leaves a lot to be desired. Williams has had consistency issues, and Roland-Wallace, although he had his moments as a rookie in 2024, is a project player. Rush and Scott Jr. are signed to reserve/future contracts.
Chamarri Conner is a CB/safety hybrid who has played a lot of slot CB for Kansas City, but he has also produced mixed results. Ideally, Conner would play more safety and the Chiefs find an upgrade at slot CB.
The NFL's free agent legal tampering period begins on March 10, with signings able to become official on March 12 – marking the beginning of the new league year. Let's take a look at some potential CB options for the Chiefs in 2025.
Nate Hobbs
Hobbs had an excellent rookie year in 2021 for the Las Vegas Raiders, but injuries have limited him in every season since, missing a total of 16 games since 2022. However, when healthy, Hobbs has continued to perform well, especially in the slot.
Hobbs doesn't often surrender big plays, and he is a great blitzing CB. That makes him a very intriguing fit for Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's system. Hobbs has recorded 281 total tackles, three interceptions, 19 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and three sacks in 51 career games.
Mike Hilton
Hilton could be a little too pricey for the Chiefs, but at 30-years-old and coming off a bit of a down year, he could be affordable. Hilton has spent the last four years with the Cincinnati Bengals after beginning his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and has been one of the best slot CBs in the league during that time.
Hilton would bring experience and leadership to a young Chiefs CB group. In 123 career games Hilton has posted 520 total tackles, 13 interceptions, 56 passes defensed, 11.5 sacks, and 35 quarterback pressures.
Kendall Fuller
Fuller played in K.C. from 2018-2019 as a slot CB/safety hybrid, and performed well. He has become more of an outside CB as of late, but still has the flexibility to play in the slot. Considering that Spagnuolo likes to put McDuffie in the slot at times, he could mix it up between McDuffie and Fuller.
Now at age 30, Fuller should come affordable and on a short-term deal. He is still productive, registering 50 total tackles and seven passes defensed in 11 games with the Miami Dolphins last season.
Emmanuel Moseley
Moseley would be a low-risk, potential high-reward signing. He has had awful injury luck over the past three years, tearing his ACL in 2022, then tearing his other ACL in 2023. During training camp in 2024, Moseley tore his pectoral, costing him the first 11 games of the season.
Moseley was off to a great start in 2022 before going down, and had a solid previous three years before that as a slot CB. Now healthy and two years removed from his ACL tears, Mosely may be able to get back to form.
