Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs could not catch a break on offense against the Philadelphia Eagles. The offense and defense both started amazing, and both started to or if you're the offense, did, lose their way in the second half.
The defense in the second half gave up 14 points after giving up seven in the first half. The offense didn't score in the second half after scoring 17 in the first. There were some major issues.
For the offense, which will continue to be the talking point, it was penalties and drops. Travis Kelce said it best: there wasn't anything special the Eagle's defense did; the Chiefs beat themselves. The penalties and wide receiver drops continue to be the biggest issues on offense for this team.
Mahomes hit Marquez Valdes-Scantling wide-open in the end zone for a touchdown on a play that may have won the game. Unfortunately, we will never know if that was a game-winner because he dropped the ball after it hit him in the hands.
Mahomes dealt with drops all game long. It was a reminder of game one, Week 1, against the Detroit Lions, when it seemed no receiver could hold on to the ball.
Then, leaving the game, Mahomes still couldn't catch a break. He threw one of his gloves right on the money to a fan, and the fan dropped it. I'm sure that didn't help the situation for Mahomes.
The Chiefs have to get the issue fixed, and I'm confident they will.
