Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah has been making the media rounds as of late.
Last week he joined Kay Adams on "Up & Adams," and on Thursday he joined NFL Network's "Good Morning Football." This appearance was unique because the show was being guest hosted by Anudike-Uzomah's former teammate, safety Justin Reid.
Reid's contract with the Chiefs expired this offseason, leading him to sign with the New Orleans Saints, where he'll pair up with another former Chiefs safety in Tyrann Mathieu. Reid asked Anudike-Uzomah to share a funny training camp story dating back to his rookie year.
"Chris (Jones) wasn't there my rookie year, but I still had to buy him a ton of water." Anudike-Uzomah said. "I think about like 20 cases of waters. Put it in his room. Charles (Omenihu) came into the room, took some of those waters too. I had to put some waters in the meeting room too. And I had to buy a lot of snacks, too. That was a lot, too. And then I bought comforters, humidifiers, fans, all that stuff before I even went up there. And on top of that, the security staff put a cat in my room, a live cat. I literally got scared, because they did it to me and Rashee (Rice). So, I literally got scared. I started running. I was like, there's no way there's actually live cat in my room."
It was actually a stuffed bobcat, not a live one like Anudike-Uzomah initially feared. It was accompanied by bobcat noises on a speaker, making for a hilarious moment. Anudike-Uzomah then went on to talk about the 7-on-7 flag football charity event that he is putting on this summer.
"When I was younger, we never had spring ball or nothing like that," Anudike-Uzomah said. "And I always did 7-on-7 things with my friends and stuff like that. So I had an idea, there's a lot of old folks and there's a lot of high schoolers that would like to have a 7-on-7, just to showcase their talent stuff. So, might as well go ahead and do it and have charity with it too. Because Children's Mercy (hospital) is dear to my heart. I had a hernia when I was younger, and they helped surgically repair it. And it was a scary thing when I was younger, because it's like a life-changing, life-threatening situation. So I wanted to give back to them, and there was no better way to have a fun event, like having a 7-on-7 tournament."
Anudike-Uzomah's event will be located at Lee's Summit High School in Lee's Summit, Missouri on June 21st and 22nd. You can find details and purchase tickets by clicking here. As for Anudike-Uzomah on the field, he is entering the pivotal third season of his career in which he will look to earn an increased role and further establish himself as a key contributor along the defensive line.
