Former Chiefs players, coaches reunite with Kansas City teammates ahead of preseason Week 3 showdown with Bears

It was a little reunion for the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night as they hosted the Chicago Bears for their third and final preseason game. And with that, it also signaled former Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s return to Arrowhead Stadium.
Oh, and not to mention former Kansas City star left guard Joe Thuney, who won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs. He was traded to the Bears this offseason, marking his first return to Arrowhead. And before the game, Patrick Mahomes, Trey Smith, and Creed Humphrey all met and spoke to Thuney on the field.
While he wasn’t in the initial photo, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce also made his way over to Thuney and Bieniemy.
Plus, former Chiefs kicker Cairo Santos, who spent four seasons as the team’s starting kicker from 2014-2017, took some time to catch up with special teams coordinator Dave Toub. Then there was linebacker Swayze Bozeman, who spent last season with Kansas City.
Bieniemy joined the Chiefs in 2013 as the running backs coach and became the offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2022. And with that, he helped Kansas City win two Super Bowl championships in 2019 and 2022.
As for Thuney, he was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, but left in free agency to join the Chiefs on a five-year, $80 million contract before the 2021 season. He was recently traded to the Bears to serve as a protector for Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams. Across his career, he has four Super Bowl championships, two first-team All-Pro honors, along has been a three-time Pro Bowler.
This reunion of an exhibition game is certainly bringing back some good memories for fans in Kansas City.
