The Kansas City Chiefs’ defense and offense did not have the season they had hoped for. However, both sides played much better on Christmas Day than anyone expected. One guy in particular who played well: safety Bryan Cook.

Cook is taking some flak for a play that honestly wasn’t even his fault, but more so just an amazing play by the player he was guarding. In a 20-13 loss to the Denver Broncos, Cook allowed a touchdown by rookie running back RJ Harvey. Cook was covering Harvey on a pass play, and was stride for stride with him. However, Harvey stops on a dime and turns around in the end zone and catches the pass from Broncos quarterback Bo Nix.

A Twitter account posted the video of the play, which was honestly a great defense by Cook, with a caption completely bashing Cook.

“B Cook balled this game & this year. All the rage baitin lame asf,” former Chiefs safety Justin Reid wrote on Twitter/X.

And Reid is right, as Cook played a pretty amazing game.

Cook had a good season when healthy and deserves a contract extension

Once the 2025 season concludes, Cook becomes an unrestricted free agent. In a way, he was the guy replacing Reid, who was the leader of the secondary and the IQ guy. Cook played the role well this season, and even had some big-time plays against Denver on Thursday.

You cannot really replicate what Reid has done for KC. In fact, at several times during the season, it was obvious just how much they missed a guy like Reid or even a guy like former safety Tyrann Mathieu.

Cook is still a young guy, and while he’s had injuries, when he does play, he’s pretty good. Cook should be somewhat cheap for the Chiefs, given his injury history and his homegrown status. Either way, if next week against the Las Vegas Raiders is his final game with the Chiefs, you love to see a former teammate in Reid stand up for him.
