A former 2012 NFL draft pick by the Kansas City Chiefs has died.
According to numerous reports, former Chiefs WR Devon Wylie has passed away. He was just 35 years old. His college, Fresno State, confirmed his death in a social media post on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 14. There has still been no cause of death reported.
A fourth-round pick (107 overall) by Kansas City in the 2012 NFL draft, Wylie spent just one season with the Chiefs, mostly as a return specialist. He appeared in just six games during his tenure in Kansas City, starting one game. He didn't record any targets or receptions, but he returned five punts for 26 yards and nine kicks for 191 yards.
Wylie joined the Tennessee Titans in 2013 after being released by Kansas City in 53-man roster cuts. He spent a while bouncing around several different practice squads with his last stint in the NFL coming with the Atlanta Falcons in 2015.
A member of Wylie's family released the following statement via social media according to ABC 30, in Fresno, California:
“We wanted to make this post so people who knew and loved Devon could learn of his passing because we don’t have the capacity to reach out to everyone in this hard time. There are no words to express the sadness that comes from losing a brother, dear friend and an amazing uncle. Devon had so much love and joy to give. Always making people laugh and entertaining us with his football skills, guitar jams, silly jokes and voices, back-flip tricks, fun banter Star Wars obsession chat, Halo nights and not to mention his beautiful smile. We will miss him always.”
The Chiefs have yet to release a statement on Wylie's death.
