Every single weekend, the conversations about the Kansas City Chiefs still stay the same. We’re talking about them being a bad football team and whether they still have a chance to make the playoffs. This team may not make it, but it’s still incredibly possible. Yet, they shouldn’t make it, because it wouldn’t go well if they did.

The Chiefs are having the weirdest season they have had in this era. This may be the first time they don’t make the playoffs in 10 years, and that could be extremely good for this franchise in more ways than one.

Chiefs need to miss the playoffs in 2025

2015 was the year that started the playoff run. That was a very long time ago. If we want to shed even more light on the dominance of this franchise, we can take it a step further. The last time the Chiefs finished a season with a losing record was in 2-12, when Romeo Crennel won just two games.

Missing the postseason and finishing the season with a losing record would end that run, which is a big deal. However, it may very well be what this team needs.

Chiefs need a break from the playoffs

When you factor in all of the playoff games the Chiefs have played in this dynasty era, they equate to a whole other season being played, at 19 playoff games. That’s a lot of wear and tear physically, mentally, and probably spiritually. That really takes a toll on someone, and only the all-time greats can do that.

The Chiefs have squeezed all they can out of this iteration of the team. There’s no more fire right now, and that’s because of the exhaustion from doing this and going deep into the postseason every year. Missing gives them a break from that, and also helps them realize where they’re supposed to be. Then, maybe they can start the next season healthier than they have in the past few seasons because they went home earlier.

Chiefs need a culture shock of some sort

Missing the playoffs would likely send a shock into this team that they’ve never really had. I guess you could point towards the Super Bowl losses, but even then, they still got to the big game and were proud of themselves. If they miss the playoffs, they won’t even have a chance to do that.

Having this season they have had, with the things that have happened, should shock the front office and coaching staff, too. This is not just an injuries thing. This is not just a bad players thing. The coaching staff has been bad, the personnel has been bad, and the player evaluation has been bad. Lose these next few games, miss the postseason, and maybe Brett Veach finally realizes that the Chiefs need a dynamic running back and some pass rushers. Lose out and maybe Andy Reid realizes that Matt Nagy has to go, and some other changes in the staff need to be made.

Also, maybe none of that happens. But, it dang sure won’t happen if they just limp into the postseason again.
