The Washington Commanders ruined what could've been a cool moment for the Kansas City Chiefs and tight end Kendall Blanton.
Blanton, who won a Super Bowl last season, was released by the Los Angeles Rams this past week.
The Chiefs were one of the teams that put in a waiver claim for Blanton.
However, the Washington Commanders had a higher waiver priority and they were awarded Blanton instead of the Chiefs.

So why would this have been a cool moment for Kansas City and Blanton?
Because it would've been a homecoming for the former Missouri tight end.
Blanton grew up just on the outskirts of Kansas City.
Sometimes these cool stories work out and sometimes they don't. The Commanders needed another tight end on the roster, so it makes sense that they claimed Blanton.
By the way, the Chiefs weren't just trying to claim Blanton because it would've been a cool story. He's a quality player that made an impact for the Rams in the playoffs last season.
Blanton caught his first NFL touchdown in the Rams' divisional round win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also started the Super Bowl (before suffering an injury) in place of the injured Tyler Higbee.
The Commanders just played the Chiefs this past weekend in a preseason game, so not only does Blanton miss out on getting to play for his hometown team, but he also missed the chance to take a visit to Kansas City with Washington.
