The Kansas City Chiefs are officially back in action this week, appearing in a game for the first time since their loss against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

The Chiefs will head to Glendale, Arizona, to face the Arizona Cardinals in preseason Week 1 on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET. This will be their first opportunity to get the bad taste out of their mouth after the Super Bowl loss, but also the first opportunity for many rookies like Josh Simmons, Omarr Norman-Lott, Jalen Royals, and others to suit up and play for their new teams. Starters will get some action, typically between one series and one quarter of play.

Here’s everything you need to know to be able to watch the game on Saturday.

How to watch, listen to, and stream the Chiefs’ preseason Week 1 game against the Cardinals

Unfortunately for fans out of market, the Chiefs’ preseason Week 1 game against the Cardinals is not being carried live nationally on NFL Network.

This game (along with the other two preseason games) will be broadcast by the team’s local television partners, KMCI-TV & KSHB-TV, for those in the local market. They also have television partners in St. Louis (KMOV, MMOV), Des Moines (KDSM), Tulsa (KJRH, KTPX), Wichita (KWCH), Arkansas (KNWA, KFTA), Columbia (KMIZ, KQFX), Joplin (KODE), St. Joseph (KQTV), Omaha (KMTV), Springfield (KOZL), & Topeka (WIBW, EIBW). Plus, the team also has broadcast partners in Alaska (KTTU, KYES, KAUU, KATH, KYEX), Hawaii (KGMB, KFVE), Mexico (FOX Sports Mexico), and Germany (DAZN NFL Gamepass).

To watch or stream the game live on Saturday as a fan living out-of-market, the league’s streaming service, NFL+, provides access to all out-of-market games. For those who are on the move and unable to watch the game, you can listen to a live radio broadcast locally at KFNZ (96.5 FM) and WDAF (106.5 FM) or on SiriusXM channel 383. The game against the Cardinals will be rebroadcast on NFL Network at 3 a.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 10, and again at Noon ET on Monday, Aug. 11.

One thing to look out for in Chiefs’ preseason Week 1 game

As much as I’d like to point to something positive to watch out for, there’s a pretty substantial negative when it comes to playing at State Farm Stadium in Arizona. They use a retractable grass field, which doesn’t sound all that bad compared to artificial surfaces, but it doesn’t have an excellent reputation. If you’ll recall, it cost Trent McDuffie a portion of his rookie season, injured kicker Harrison Butker, and caused all sorts of controversy with Super Bowl LVIII. I wouldn’t be surprised to see players like Jawaan Taylor and Jared Wiley, who are recovering from knee injuries, sit out this game due to the playing surface. This might be one where Chiefs HC Andy Reid opts against playing starters for an outsized number of snaps.
