When Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna stepped up to the podium to speak with reporters on Tuesday, he probably had no idea the line of questions he would be facing.

Just before he walked up, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement.

So, did he think he would be the first Chiefs player to have to talk about this?

“I tell you, that was not on my mind,” Danna replied. “And being the first one to talk to you guys about, that’s shocking to me.”

Danna and the Chiefs’ tight end have been teammates since 2020, when Danna was selected in the fifth round out of the University of Michigan. And then there’s Swift, who has become a regular presence around the team over the past two years. So with that, Danna has gotten the chance to interact with her.

“Probably, like once or twice, New Year’s party,” he said. “You know, a few times at the game after the game, but that’s a great thing, seeing them settle down and seeing all the happy smiles, happy faces between the two.”

And he’s gotten to try her infamous Pop-Tarts, too.

“So, man, listen, them things will get you in trouble, because those are like dessert and those are like fire. So if you have one best believe you’re going want two, maybe three,” he explained. “But she, she did like, you know, pop tarts for the whole position groups. I think she did, like, last year. And when I tell you the D-Line was all over those, like, soon as we found out it was from her, we was like, ‘Yeah, we need about, like four more boxes of those.’ It was about like 12 of them in each.”

That also gave him an idea for a potential engagement gift.

“Oh, wow. Well, what they want? I don’t know if I could, you know, bring forth. . . but I’ll think of a good little engagement gift,” he said. “It might be something special for them, maybe some Pop Tarts back to her, but it won’t be homemade. It might just be a box.”
