Chiefs-Bills inactive players: Former Kansas City first-round draft pick gets nod over free agent running back in Week 9
See who’s in and who’s out for Kansas City’s Week 9 against the Buffalo.
It’s almost time for the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills to square off in a pivotal Week 9 matchup.
The Chiefs have already ruled out starting running back Isiah Pacheco for this game. Veteran backup Kareem Hunt will lead the way out of the backfield, with rookie Brashard Smith also in the mix. The Bills are very thin on defense this week, particularly along their defensive line. Let’s examine both team’s inactive players lists.
Bills’ inactive players
- LB Shaq Thompson
- DT DaQuan Jones
- WR Joshua Palmer
- CB Taron Johnson
- CB Brandon Codrington
- OT Chase Lundt
- DE Landon Jackson
Observations:
- With fellow defensive tackles Ed Oliver and T.J. Sanders on injured reserve, the Bills will also be without Jones in this game.
- Thompson’s absence will be felt, as he is Buffalo’s best coverage linebacker.
- Johnson, the Bills’ top nickel back, also will not play.
Chiefs’ inactive players
- OL Josh Simmons
- RB Isiah Pacheco
- RB Elijah Mitchell
- CB Kristian Fulton
- TE Jared Wiley
- WR Jalen Royals
- OG C.J. Hanson
Observations:
- Simmons will miss his fourth consecutive game, leading to Jaylon Moore starting in his place once again. Moore was questionable entering this matchup with an illness, but is active.
- Former first-round draft pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire gets the nod over Mitchell, who hasn’t been active for a game yet this season. Edwards-Helaire will see regular season action with Kansas City for the first time since 2023.
- Defensive tackle Mike Pennel, who just re-signed with the Chiefs after being released during the preseason, is active and will play.
