The Kansas City Chiefs have made a transaction with Chris Jones, but it's of the variety that guarantees a holdout is coming during the 2023 NFL season.

The Chiefs have moved Jones to the Reserve/Do Not Report list, which is also known as the "left team" list. Basically, he will not count toward the 53-man roster while he's on this list. His cap hit will also not count toward the salary cap, but there is conflicting information on whether direct salary cap relief for Kansas City would come in 2023 or 2024 for the time that Jones spends on this list.

The bottom line: He's not yet rejoined the team and he's likely to miss games during the regular season.

A former second-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Jones started in 99 combined regular-season and postseason games for the Chiefs. During that span, the 29-year-old has amassed 256 combined tackles, 70 tackles for loss, 67 sacks, and 42 passes batted. He received his first career First-Team All-Pro nod last season after leading the Kansas City defense with 15.5 sacks. He's been selected for the Pro Bowl on four different occasions and has two Super Bowl titles under his belt with the Chiefs.
