The Kansas City Chiefs are on to preparing for their Week 8 showdown against the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football.

Kansas City is clicking on all cylinders and have won four of its last five games. The Commanders are in a bit of a slump, losers of three of their last four. Some of that can be attributed to tough injury luck.

During Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bears, Washington was down its top two wide receivers in Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel, and quarterback Jayden Daniels exited the game during the third quarter with a hamstring injury. ESPN’s Adam Schefter had an unfortunate update on Daniels while appearing on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday.

“Jayden Daniels went to the blue medical tent hobbled,” Schefter said. “People weren’t exactly sure what it initially was. It turned to his hamstring. Jayden Daniels hobbles off the field, doesn’t come back in the game. I think it would be safe to say right now that it would be a surprise if he’s playing a week from today against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.

“The Commanders are about to embark upon the teeth of their schedule. They play the Chiefs, the (Seattle) Seahawks, the (Detroit) Lions. I think that it’s fair to think that Jayden Daniels is going to miss some of those games with a hamstring injury like that. Here’s a guy that makes his living with his legs, with his arm, and again, I think it’d be a surprise if he’s back next week.”

Kansas City’s defense is rolling, holding the explosive Lions to just 17 points two weeks ago, and completely shutting out the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. It may now get to face the Commanders without Daniels, who is one of the best young QBs in the league.

If Daniels has to sit, veteran Marcus Mariota will start in his place. The Chiefs know Mariota well, and would much rather face him than the electric Daniels. Schefter also revealed that Daniels had an MRI on his hamstring Monday, and while it doesn’t appear to be a long-term concern, his status for Week 8’s game against K.C. is murky.

The Chiefs’ defense is currently allowing the fifth-fewest yards and third-fewest points in the NFL. Even Daniels does play, it’s safe to bet that Spagnuolo will have his unit well prepared and executing at a high level.
